  🚨 Michigan Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers is sounding the alarm on the state's economic trajectory, claiming Michigan has lost 40,000 manufacturing jobs and that electricity rates are running approximately 20% above the national average. In a television interview, Rogers pointed to rising energy costs and tax competitiveness as key factors driving businesses and workers out of the state — arguing Michigan's income tax rate of 4.25% puts it at a disadvantage compared to Ohio's 4.25% 2.75% flat rate that took effect in 2026. Rogers is seeking the open U.S. Senate seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters in the November 2026 general election. He previously won the Republican primary for Michigan's other Senate seat in August 2024 but lost the general election by fewer than 20,000 votes. Rogers has already drawn endorsements from Senate Majority Leader John Thune and NRSC Chairman Sen. Tim Scott. Michigan's residential electricity rates have more than doubled over the past 20 years, rising from 9.8 cents to 21.2 cents per kilowatt-hour — a 117% increase that has outpaced inflation and outpaced rate hikes in 46 other states, according to a Detroit News analysis. The Michigan Public Service Commission, however, notes the state's average monthly electric bill of $119.31 in 2024 was nearly $23 below the national average.
