ⓘ What do the party and ideology labels mean?

On the ballot, partisan candidates run under a party — in Wisconsin almost always Democratic or Republican, with the occasional third-party or independent candidate. Words like progressive, conservative, libertarian, or democratic socialist are labels people use to describe themselves, not separate parties on the ballot. A label is a starting point; each candidate's sourced positions show where they actually stand.

    • Republican insiders sent a mailer calling me, a former Army paratrooper, someone who “parachuted” into the district. Yes. Really. That’s the attack. 🪂 They’re spending dark money in our Democratic primary because they know I am the one who will beat Bob Donovan in November. But Wisconsin voters are too smart to let Republicans pick our nominee for us. Let’s reject dark money interfering in our politics. Vote Ben Brist on Tuesday, August 11.

    • This election we have a real choice. One candidate wants to give Wisconsin away to the largest donors and most powerful special interests, while Ben will fight for a Wisconsin that serves everyone.

    • An exciting update: our first TV ad is on the air. I'm a sixth-generation Wisconsinite and the son of two public servants. I went to West Point, spent seven years as an Army infantry officer, deployed twice to the Middle East, and came home to Wisconsin, settling in Greendale because Hannie and I want to build our life here. I'm running for the Assembly because government works best when it's close to the people it serves, and right now Madison isn't delivering for people here. Our schools are underfunded, our property taxes keep rising, healthcare costs too much, and everything else, from groceries to housing and childcare, keeps getting more expensive, too. That's what this campaign is about. Take 30 seconds to watch, and share it with a neighbor who hasn't met me yet.

    • I am proud of my service; for the people I served with, the opportunities it gave me, and the values it instilled in me. I am also proud to be a Wisconsinite. After serving 7 years on active duty which took me around the world, I always knew I would come home. It would be an honor to serve you as your next representative in the State Assembly.
